A security guard was left on the floor of Sainsbury’s today after he was attacked by two men shoplifting in Stanmore.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:00pm this afternoon (29 August), two men had been caught stealing items from the shop before being approached by staff and security.
Shocking footage obtained by Harrow Online shows the two men tussling with the security team and hurling abusive language. At one point the security guard was left on the ground after being struck with a hammer according to a witness.
An eyewitness told Harrow Online: “I heard some screaming and a group of people watching so I went towards the screaming. As I approached I saw two security gaurds fighting over a bag with two black men. They were fighting for about 3-4 minutes-ish before they managed to break free. The security guard chases after them, then let go. A few moments later he was on the floor saying “they have a hammer”. A few of his colleagues told me he got hit”.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to Sainsbury’s on High Street, Stanmore at 16:44hrs on Saturday, 29 August to a report of two men attempting to shoplift seen with weapons.
“Officers attended however the two suspects had fled the scene prior to arrival.
“A security guard received minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.
“No arrests; The investigation is ongoing.”
This incident comes after reports of thieves stealing catalytic converters in the supermarket car park. One source told Harrow Online that at least four members of staff have had the same thing happen each time, we approached the management for comment on this but so far no response.
