Health Secretary Matt Hancock appeared on ITVs This Morning today and was grilled by host Phillip Schofield about potential new lockdown measures coming in to place.

Unfortunately, pubs may be forced to shut across England by the weekend after Mr Hancock refused rule out further lockdown restrictions.

He said: “We will be absolutely clear about the changes we need to make in the very, very near future,”

“It’s not a no, and it’s not a yes,” he added.

When asked about the potential impact that the second wave of Coronavirus might have on Christmas he said: “The more we can control the virus now and stop the spread now, the easier it’s going to be to have a Christmas that’s as close to normal as possible,”.

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Hancock said: “local lockdowns are necessary, and I’ve brought in local action right across different parts of the country where cases are rising.

“I’ve had discussions this week with the Mayor of London and the teams are meeting today to discuss further what might be needed.”

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan tweeted: “Later today I’ll meet with borough leaders and public health experts to discuss the spread of the virus in our city, which I’m seriously concerned about. I’ll update Londoners as soon as I can about any measures that we believe may be required.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is widely expected to announce further restrictions on London and potentially the whole of England tomorrow evening after spending the weekend with senior ministers and advisers discussing what action to take.
