Glow in One mini golf venue opening in Watford

A new glow-in-the-dark mini golf venue is opening up in the heart of Watford.

From a funky and urban layout, to a glowing galactic course, Glow in One at the Parade is likely to catch the eyes of families and friends wanting a fun day out in Watford.

Sandra and Craig Hawkes, from Ruislip, say they are excited to open the family run business on Wednesday (September 1) after two years of extensive planning.

The end result is a 14-hole venue with charming handmade structures by Mr Hawkes and striking glow-in-the-dark colours on the walls.

The first six holes are centred around an “urban street” theme, with items such as skateboards and basketballs being made into a hole.

There is also a space-themed course with very distinctive colours and items.

Glow in One has been a “dream forever” for Mr Hawkes, and two years ago the Hawkes couple finally decided to go ahead with exploring the idea.

Mr Hawkes himself is a professional golfer and mainly taught golf – but became irritated with many of his golf ranges being sold off.

Instead, he always wished to open up a mini-golf place to make children, families, couples and friends all happy as they play through the wacky courses.

“We could have easily given up,” Mrs Hawkes said after recalling some leasing issues and their original plan to open up in April 2021 – which would have clashed with lockdown restrictions.

Due to a delay in opening up, the couple had to store various props around their house for over a year.

Most of these items were hand built by Mr Hawkes, including a phone box and other items. During the course of lockdown, the couple were able to toy around with different ideas and change parts of how the course would look.

While the sets were all being put together, Mrs Hawkes noticed there were lots of interest from people walking past the venue, located just by Steinbeck and Shaw.

The mini golf venue will also feature a café, offering pizzas and hotdogs, as well as milkshakes, smoothies, slushies, coffees and other snacks.

Mrs Hawkes said she is “nervous and excited” but also “proud” that they have finally reached this stage.

Once the venue opens on Wednesday, prices will be:

Adult: £8.50

Children under sixteen: £6.50

OAP: £6.50

Under three-years-old: Free

Family bundles are also available, offering £25 for two adults and two children or one adult, three children.
